Where’s the Beef?
Do you have an all-time favorite TV Commercial? One so memorable that 30 or 40 years later you can still recall it? How about those “Where’s the beef” commercials Wendy’s ran in the 1980s? The ones with the little old lady asking that question in a voice not unlike the sound of a jackhammer. How about the McDonalds commercials from the 1990s? The ones that were always reminding us that “You deserve a break today.” You want to go further back in time? Remember the Coke commercials from the 1970s? “Have a Coke and a smile,” as a sweaty Mean Joe Green throws the little boy his football jersey. And maybe the most inspirational ad of all time, the one with a crowd of hip young people holding up their Coca Cola bottles and singing “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony…”
Today’s TV commercials just aren’t as good as they used to be. Can you say fast forward? Thank goodness for DVR. About the only time people pay any attention to commercials is during the Super Bowl. And when you do have to sit through them, they are something to be tolerated, much like the Royals this summer, gritting your teeth while watching the same dang ones for the millionth time.
Well, I am here to tell you there is finally a TV commercial you won’t want to fast forward through. Pretty pictures, soothing voice-over, inspirational message, and our very own Tommy Bickimer. Yep, Bickimer Homes has a new TV commercial now airing on KMBC, Channel 9. Check it out as you get ready for work in the morning. No, Tommy’s not asking where the beef is, and he’s not going to teach you to sing in perfect harmony, but he will leave you with a smile and this: “Bickimer Homes, building dreams on a solid foundation since 1982.” 1982, wow, almost as far back as that favorite Coke commercial of yours.
